GENERAL COUNSELOR
About Camp Wildwood:
At Camp Wildwood, we've been providing unforgettable and developmental summer experiences for boys since 1953. Set on a beautiful Maine property on the shores of Woods Pond, Wildwood has expansive sports fields, superior facilities, and wooded trails. Our camp fosters growth, adventure, and lifelong friendships for both our campers and staff. Our mission is to create a supportive, fun, and safe environment where boys build confidence, resilience, and independence.
Position Overview:
Camp Counselors play a vital role in delivering a full summer experience for our campers, ages 7-15. Counselors serve as role models, mentors, and leaders, guiding campers through daily activities - team sports, individual sports, swimming and boating on the waterfront, creative arts, outdoor adventures, and community living. This is a full-time, live-in summer position that requires energy, enthusiasm, and a commitment to camper safety and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities for all Counselors:
- Leadership and guidance of a bunk group of four to eight campers.
- Participation in general camp program.
- Adherence to all safety and health regulations
- Use of mature good judgement at all times.
- Guide the individual camper in participating in group, unit, and all-camp activities.
- Participate fully in camp life, including evening programs, campfires, trips, special events, and other camp-wide activities as assigned.
- Supervise campers at activities as assigned by Group Leader.
- Be responsible for night and rest hour coverage of bunk per schedule.
- Act as host at a table of campers in the dining room.
- Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and guide for campers.
- Supervise campers in cabins, during meals, activities, and free time.
- Support campers' social and emotional development in a residential community setting.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment at all times.
- Communicate with Group Leaders and Directors as needed regarding camper progress and wellbeing.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: (19+) Prior experience working with children preferred.
- Energetic, responsible, and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to live on-site for 8 weeks during the summer (June 19 - August 14, 2026).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred (training may be provided).
- Red Cross Lifeguard Training is a plus (training may be provided).
- Passion for outdoor activities, sports, and mentoring boys in a residential camp setting.
